Our story
Bíneva was born from a simple feeling: in the diaspora, we still search for our people, our hair, our food, our voice. We built a home for all of it — warm, safe, and ours.
My name is Jackie Oyee. I was born in Equatorial Guinea, and I was eleven years old when my family moved to Europe. At that age, you do not fully understand what leaving home truly means. You simply adapt. You learn a new language, a new culture, new ways of behaving, new ways of surviving. Little by little, without even realizing it, you begin to change. You make new friends. You begin to copy the way people speak, the way they move, the way they see the world. Even your food changes. Even your hair changes. And somewhere along the way, you begin to lose small pieces of yourself.
As you grow older, you begin to feel it. A quiet emptiness. A distance you cannot explain. Because no matter how much you try to belong, a part of you still longs for something familiar — for your people, your culture, your beauty, your way of being. And one day, you begin searching for yourself again. That longing, that search, became Bíneva.
Bíneva means "We are here. We have arrived. We are present. We exist." And that is exactly what I want every African woman — both on the continent and across the diaspora — to feel when entering this space. A feeling of coming home. A feeling of being surrounded by people who understand you without needing too many explanations. Your hair. Your beauty. Your culture. Your language. Your way of being. A place where you no longer feel like you have to search for yourself alone.
Because Bíneva is more than an app. It is a space created for Afro women across Europe, across the diaspora, and across Africa itself to reconnect through beauty, culture, food, traditions, and shared experiences. And it is also about reconnecting with the women across Africa — the women who never truly left home, who still carry the wisdom, beauty, softness, strength, and traditions passed down through generations. Through them, many of us reconnect with forgotten parts of ourselves. Because sometimes, home is not only a place. Sometimes home is found in the people who remind you who you are.
With love,
Jackie Oyee
